About the business

Kampoeng is a 20-year-old Indonesian eatery that continues to delight diners with authentic, distinctive dishes in a cozy setting rooted in tradition. Boasting a wide range of offerings—from Ayam Geprek (spicy smashed chicken) to Gado-Gado (Indonesia’s signature salad with peanut sauce)—Kampoeng brings the rich diversity of Indonesian cuisine to the heart of one of Hong Kong’s liveliest areas. Its enduring popularity and well-curated menu speak volumes about the restaurant’s trusted quality and lasting appeal.

What's unique?

Tucked in the vibrant heart of Causeway Bay, Kampoeng is more than an Indonesian restaurant—it’s a space rich with cultural memory. For 20 years, it has served flavors that bring people “balik kampung,” (returning home/return to village) evoking the warmth of home through dishes like Teler Ice, Rendang Beef, Satay Chicken Skewers, and many more. Once a humble eatery frequented by Indonesian domestic helpers near Victoria Park, Kampoeng grew into a welcoming restaurant for everyone, balancing authenticity with local taste. Despite the city’s high rents and evolving palate, it has endured with carefully sourced ingredients, skilled chefs, and a comforting, traditional ambiance. In today’s fast-moving Hong Kong, Kampoeng remains a rare spot where food tells stories of migration, belonging, and the enduring taste of home.
